Ritvik Gupta, a young man working at Amri Hospital, tragically took his own life while in police custody in Baguihati.
The incident has caused distress and anger among the residents of Vidyasagar village, leading to protests and confrontation with the police at the scene. Ritvik, a student of hospitality management, was arrested by Baguihati police station after locals reportedly handed him over for alleged harassment of women while riding his bike. Upon being released on bail, he returned home only to be found dead by hanging in his flat the following morning.
The family claims that Ritvik was subjected to severe beatings during his time in custody, and they have filed a complaint against the police at Amri Hospital. The tragic turn of events, along with the alleged mistreatment, is believed to have caused immense humiliation for Ritvik, leading to his decision to end his life.
As tensions escalated, senior officials from the Vidhannagar police force arrived at the scene, but the local residents surrounded them, expressing their frustration and demanding justice.
